The Christian Service Center is a community care ministry of the Oakcrest Church of Christ assisted by other congregations and individuals. The center supplies clothing, household necessities and food to those in need. Clients are offered Bible correspondence courses or home Bible studies.
The Christian Service Center began in 1973 under the oversight of the Britton congregation.
The Oakcrest Church of Christ accepted the oversight on October 1, 1983. The Oakcrest Christian Service Center began service at its current building on January 15, 1984.
Volunteer workers have been the heart of the work at the Christian Service Center. At present about 20 workers from the churches of Christ volunteer regularly. Several volunteers from the community help frequently.
When Oakcrest began oversight of the work about 10 families came for assistance each day. That number has grown to an average of over 40 families per day, or nearly 3000 people each month and operates from the hours of 9am – 2 pm Monday through Friday.
In addition to the regular volunteer workers from metro churches of Christ, the Christian Service Center receives monthly support from 14 congregations, including Oakcrest, Moore Central, Southwest, Cherokee Hills, Mayfair, Southern Ridge, Lakehoma, South Yukon, Ridgecrest, Westside (Norman) Wilshire, Bridgecreek, North MacArthur and South Edmond.
